Opened in 1979 and running parallel to the Mediterranean Playa
Serena is mainly flat with small sloping greens, most of which are
protected by bunkers and water, a dominant feature here with some
twelve holes affected. Winds from the east and west together with
the length of the course and the unforgiving rough make the Angel
Gallardo and Peter Allis design a considerable challenge. Many players
find their problems begin at the 7th, a long hole with out-of-bounds
close by on the right and water on the left demanding both power
and accuracy off the tees. In response to the growing demand for
golf in this rapidly developing area, which boasts projects for
an additional seven or eight courses to open by the end of the century,
Playa Serena plans to build a further nine holes. The course is
located five kilometres from Roquetas de Mar.
